Last Tuesday Hadley and I participated in the United Way Unity Run. Hadley completed the Kids 1K. I completed the 5K. We are currently working on a bible study, called Run for God. It compares the race of life with running a race. The end goal is to complete a 5K. We are only at our half way point, but our group participated in the Unity Run, to get an idea of what to expect. It was absolutely awesome to do something I have never done before and know at the end of it, I gave it my absolute best. I'm not a runner, I'm pretty sure I did everything physically possible to get out of running in Elementary School and Middle School.
Hadley completed her part too, as only she could. It was with great enthusiasm, she wanted to participate in the bible study. It was with great reluctance she wanted to participate after the first week. I signed her up hoping the race might get her juices going again. HA!!! She started out great and gave it all she had. She left all she had in the beginning, by the mid point, she was tuckered out and Wayne was having to cheer her on pretty hard. We were watching them come in to the stadium, I was watching her little legs go as the ran between the cheerleaders and football players that were lining the path and all of a sudden I saw her go down, her shorts go skidding above her head and her black and white hair bow go skidding across the asphalt. I ran over scooped her up and took her over to the grass, knowing the asphalt had eaten her up. After inspection, she had cut and bruised her elbow pretty good, but was otherwise fine. Before she knew what was happening, I yanked her up and we started running. I was telling her she had to finish the race. It was then that she gave one of her Academy Award winning performances as I physically drug her around the track. She was screaming I can't do it, my elbow hurts and I was dragging her dead weight, the length of the track. When we neared the finish line, I let go of her and told her she was going to finish on her own. She stopped and proceeded to start crying again. I don't recall exactly what I said, but she started half heartedly running and holding her elbow and finished the race. Apparently, there were 3 in her age group, she ended up placing third.
After Hadley's race, Ellison decided to take her turn around the track. I'm not sure if she likes running more or being bossy, telling me to run.
It was a great day, drama and all.
Telling a friend all about her wipe out.
