Saturday Night Fun, Something for Everyone

Saturday Night, what to do ?

1. Breakfast for Dinner (my favorite) - A few pictures of my cooks in the kitchen. I learned that a good cook must always sample as they prepare their meal.

2. An Evening Horseback Ride (Hadley's new favorite) - She laughed her contagious adorable laugh the whole time. This is the first time she has ridden in the saddle by herself. The picture on the mower is of her waiting to ride as I sweat getting her horse, Sassy saddled. Clearly she is not interested in the grunt work.

3. College Football (Wayne's favorite) - No pictures necessary, it's not pretty. Although, you can check out Amy's blog for pictures of football earlier that day. It wasn't Auburn, but it was SEC College Football, so Wayne was all about it.

Happy Camper I am not

I got this via e-mail after my last post. I see where Hadley gets her lovely wild morning hair from!!!

Walking down memory lane

Nope, we don't have a new cheerleader in the family. Guess who this uniform use to belong to.....me! Although, I don't think my parents would actually say I was a cheerleader. My only recollection of wearing this is the pictures of me standing with my finger in my mouth, bawling my eyes out. Mom and Dad may have to correct the story, but I believe I made my debut and had my final appearance in the same night.

In the first picture below, I asked Hadley to pose with her hands on her hips. When I asked her why she was cocking her head to the side, she said because that is what cheerleaders do. It's been so long since my one appearance, I had forgotten!!!!

Hadley's extreme makeover

Hadley is in her first year of Awana this year. She is a very proud little Cubbie. Each month they have a theme night; this month's theme night was Crazy Hair. Sure we could have gone with the standard crazy ponytails or braids or even painted hair, but we opted for straight hair. After all, what would be crazier for a girl with kinky curly hair than straight hair? She almost looks sweet in this picture....
I've got tomorrow's post ready and let's say it will take a couple people down memory lane......

We are so different

I have been self- diagnosed with OCD (obsessive cleaning disorder) with a dash of OCD (obsessive compulsive disorder). Wayne and I are so different. One example, he could live out of his vehicle for days. There is food, drink, clothes, towels, reading material, athletic equipment and on and on. It could honestly be considered his extra closet. The below pictures are Exhibit A and B. Exhibit A is the backseat. Exhibit B is the back with the third row of seats folded down. Seriously, there is a problem when an 8-passenger vehicle only comfortably seats two. My question to you is this, which are you? Take the poll to the right and weigh in with your vote.

Trouble at School

The title of this post won't be that shocking to some. Although, I must say the reason for trouble at school is truly a new one for Hadley and one I honestly didn't expect to encounter at 3 1/2. When I picked Hadley up at school today, I was met with the usually excited squeal of, "Mommy I've been a good girl." Given Hadley's ability to stretch the truth (lie), I must seek her teacher's input to get the real truth. Ms. Menal said Hadley had a good afternoon and was in a super mood, they just had one "incident". Seems Miss Hadley kissed a little boy on the lips. When we got to the car and began to discuss the "incident" further, she told me she kissed Chase because she liked him. I am even more confused now, because Chase has always been her friend and Bailey has been her "boyfriend", I just assumed he had been the recipient of the "incident". However, according to Hadley, Bailey has been mean to her and is no longer her boyfriend. Chase is nice to her, so he is her boyfriend now.

I’m just shaking my head at this point. I am emotionally not prepared for this; I thought I had a few more years. Who knew?

Self Portrait

Hadley has recently discovered the joy of taking pictures. Usually she captures the ceiling or floor, or some wacky angle on whoever is closest to her. This particular night, she insisted on taking her own picture in the mirror. I knew how it was going to turn out, before she even took it. Upon further examination though, I think she captured her spirit. She is a blinding ray of light. Her energy and personality are so strong, she lights up our life. What would your self-portrait look like?

Life Lesson

Everyday Hadley opens my eyes to a new way of thinking. Usually it isn’t a right way of thinking, but it makes me laugh, regardless of whether I should or not.

For her entire 3 ½ years she has heard how adorable, cute and precious she is. She has heard this from family, friends, strangers, and Wayne and I too. We didn’t realize the effect this had on her until recently. After she got out of her bath one night, she ran over to the mirror in her room, she was looking at her self, or I should say making goo goo eyes at herself, I then hear her say, “Mommy I’m so cute”. Hmmm, how do I explain to a 3 year old, she shouldn’t talk about herself like that? So I said, “Hadley, we can tell other people they are cute or adorable, but we aren’t suppose to say that about ourselves, we have to be humble”. I could see the wheels turning, she then says, “So I can’t say I’m cute, I’m suppose to say I’m bumble?” Life Lesson: Choose your words carefully with a 3 year old.

Hadley has just moved up to a new room at her school. Her new teachers are fantastic and seem to be connecting with her and bringing out her best. (Many of you have heard the stories of me be called to the school in the middle of the day with the wooden spoon.) I am praying this new school year and the new teachers continue to bring out a new Hadley. One of their class rules is to keep your hands to yourself (an easy one to understand, right??). Her teacher was telling me the other day that at the lunch table several of the kids were poking and nudging each other, she said she then saw Hadley reach out and tap someone on the shoulder with her spoon. The teacher reminded Hadley of the rule, “keep your hands to yourself.” She said Hadley looked at her with the sweetest most sincere face and said, “but I used my spoon, not my hands.” Life Lesson: Choose your words carefully with a 3 year old.

The other day I was getting Hadley out of the car at school, when a helicopter flew overhead. As she emerges from the car and hears the helicopter, she says, “what the cr** is that noise?” Horrified gasp from me, “Hadley we don’t say that word, where did you hear it?” She doesn’t remember, but I continue to explain why that is not a nice word. Flash forward, to the next morning, there is a truck driving as slowly as possible over the railroad tracks down the road from our house, to which I blurt, “what the cr**??” Another, horrified gasp from me. Yes, that’s right, Hadley is in the backseat screaming the lyrics to Hannah Montana, Nobody’s Perfect, the irony. I apologize to her and explain again why that is not a nice word. Life Lesson: Choose your words carefully with a 3 year old.

The other day I was going to the barn and Hadley wanted to go out and play on her swing set. She was wearing only her underwear, so I explained she couldn’t go like she was, she needed to go get ready. She comes back still wearing her underwear, but now wearing crocs. I begin to explain again, that she can’t go out in her underwear. She says, “but mommy you said underwear was like my bathing suit.” Life Lesson: Choose your words carefully with a 3 year old. (There is a picture to go with this life lesson.)

Yes, she is outside in her underwear and crocs, playing on her swingset!!!

From Blog Lurker to Blog Owner

Well I guess it is official, we are going to try this. Not sure how it will go, but we will give it a whirl. I don’t really have a particular goal in mind. Truth be told, the real reason I am doing this is because I feel a little guilty. I’ve been lurking around blogger world for several months, getting all this fabulous strength and inspiration from these people (friends and favorite sites listed) and putting nothing out there myself. It’s like I’ve been eavesdropping on a club, because I’m too chicken to pay my dues!!!

Ms. Colleen made me aware of this world, how fun it was to keep up with Sarah and Rachel. Then a friend e-mailed me the Bring the Rain site and I will confess, I went back to the very beginning and read this blog. WOW what a story, what a family, and what a woman! I then started linking over to all of Angie’s friends’ sites. Then Amy and Stacia created blogs and here I am.

More later (already working on my next post, Life Lessons), but before I close, hope this brings a smile to your face! This is one of my most favorite pictures of my Hads!
