The Last Lecture

I got this book for Christmas and just finished it a few days ago. To steal Zig Ziglar's tag line, "FANTASTIC". I enjoyed the entire book, it had me reflecting on the past and contemplating the future. His perspective truly is inspirational. I love the first line in Chapter 39 it says, "Experience is what you get when you didn't get what you wanted." I immediately flashed back to when I was about 12 years old and had first started showing horses. Things didn't go well in the beginning and there were lots of times I was the last one to walk out of the ring, because that's when my name was called, LAST. Each time I would get discouraged and each time my Mom and Dad said, "Carrie it's a learning experience." To which I said, "I don't need any more learning experiences, I want to WIN." Things eventually got better and I had a successful show career with a few WINS. I realized I had to have those experiences to appreciate a WIN. The WIN truly meant something because it was a reward for my hard work. If you haven't already, I recommend reading this book, FANTASTIC.

Guess what tomorrow is, Show N Tell Day, I'm so excited!!!! It is Winter Collage Day, one question: Does it look like Hadley made this project? To say I struggled to find "Winter" themed items would be a stretch, thankfully this afternoon, I had gone around and asked a couple of my coworkers if they had any Christmas cards they could spare. I'm really excited about my work in Pre-Pre K, I think I will pass to Pre-K with flying colors!!!

The Boogieman

So I'm home in bed with a migraine, my family at Church. As I lay there contemplating if my head could be removed from body, the migraine taken out and then reattached, I begin to hear noises under the house. These are legitimate noises, not noises from my drug-induced stupor. I contemplate getting up and turning on the alarm, but in my current state I think: Boogieman bring it on!!! I drift off to LaLa Land, I awake and my world is much brighter (I am now actually able to tolerate light)! I am now in that foggy haze that takes over after a migraine (yes, Dad not too much different than my normal state). I stumble down the hallway and then begin to hear actual banging on the air return in the hallway. In true horror film, dumb blonde fashion I open the air return, without a weapon in sight! I was confident it wasn't a person, but thankfully though it wasn't the rat, opossum or other rodent it could have been, it was our darling little bobtail wonder, Murtis!!!

Clicking through 09

Just clicking along on my list of goals for 2009. Last night I got Hadley's closet cleaned out and yet another tub of clothes into storage. My little helper wasn't so great yesterday; she really pushed Wayne’s buttons and mine yesterday (insert giggle from my Mom and Dad). She got multiple spankings for everything from out right defiance, not listening, a smart mouth, screaming, you name it, yesterday was all about the drama. Last night I was looking at her old baby pictures on the computer and Wayne says, "She sure was cute, THEN." It could be we are all going stir crazy, I think we will get out tonight and do something, anything.

Last night when I went on pants patrol (I go in nightly and pull Hadley's pants up "they bother her", we insist she wear them to bed, so after we leave she pulls them down to her ankles, what a great compromise!) I realize she isn't wearing what Wayne put on her after her bath. When I ask him about it, he says she changed to her footed pj's on her own, I said well she is wearing a nightgown now. So this morning, when she got up I begin to inquire about her outfit:

*********

Me: Hadley what happened to your t-shirt and pants.
Hadley: Daddy put them on me, but the shirt was too small and my arms were freezing like ice.
Me: I thought you put your snowman pj's on?
Hadley: I did but the zipper was choking me and it just wasn't working out for me.
End of conversation, me in fits of laughter...
*********

What post would be complete without a picture? I wanted to share the picture our very talented friend Wendy did, we gave this to my parents for Christmas. She did one of just Hadley for Wayne's mom, but somehow he deleted it so I can't share it now. This is a picture of our horses Sassy and her baby Taz, then me and my baby: Mama's and Their Babies!!!

PS: I'm really sore from all that shoveling!!!

Successes and a Setback

We have had a rather boring but productive day here at our house. One of my goals for the New Year was to be more active. I failed to share my goal with Wayne, but it was as if he knew. He had me out at the barn shoveling a ton of sand into the horse's stall this AM. By a ton, I mean a literal ton. I'm sure I will be feeling this little bit of activity tomorrow. A second goal for the New Year was to get the Christmas tree down today. This I was able to do with a little assistance from Hads, so sweet and careful. My little helper had to take a break to scare her Daddy (Yes I am a horrible parent and ignored the bright yellow warning label, warning not to let children play with the containers and the lids.). What success story would be complete without a little backsliding? Another goal for the New Year is to eat better. That will have to start after we get through these gems, the most yummy chocolate chip cookies and an Éclair cake!!!

A Bright 2009

Wishing you a bright and prosperous 2009.
*******
Last night we went to New Years Eve Service at Church. It was lovely and frightening at the same time. Yes, frightening all I will say is children and fire!
